Concepts

Hello, hello. Just a quick update before I go to bed. I've been sketching like mad the past few days planning out some large oil paintings. Above are a few sketch concepts, some extremely rough. I prefer the first and last, something about the middle one is a little... hmm. I don't know, there is either something there that shouldn't be, or something not there that should be. I haven't quite figured it out... yet.

I'm almost finished my portrait of Emily, last week was a hardcore marian work week so not a lot of oil painting was accomplished. This week Infinite Ammo is at GDC so I have a bit of time to do some personal painting and hopefully also get the last of my commissions out of the way.

I started a new portrait today, something from my imagination, with a lot of purple, pink and blue. I'll snap photos as soon as it starts looking like something.

I think that is all for now. Goodnight beloved blog readers!

Actually the middle one is my favorite so far. I think you just need to boost up the contrast in it and its well on its way. Great job overall!

There's something about that last one that really appeals to me. It will look really good once painted.

The first and the very last image at the bottom are my favorites. Something about the women gives off a regal air.

these look great
honestly i think you're setting yourself up for disappointment (possibly) with so much detail in your concept work.

i think the second has potential but its hard to see.

the first and last definitely have the most strength. its interesting to see you sway from your usual designs a little, but i'd recommend roaming a bit further out of your comfort zone (including digital concept prior to painting. just sketch it out and go)

i'm anxious to see how these turn out.

To be honest, the middle one is the only one I like. The other two are a bit boring, nothing about the girls draws me in. Perhaps the middle one would look better if her eyes were a bit less glossy.

I really like all three. My favorite is the middle.

I like the middle one the most because it has an urban-city fantasy feel with the sharp highlights and muted blue colors. As if the characters in the first and second one were transported into a futuristic utopia.

The hair is really interesting.

I definitelly like the one in the middle the best. She looks creepy and candles look gooood lol. I love the cold palette, and the whole feeling of it.

Those make me think of some of ImagineFX's covers work in progress :3

I like them all for the color themes and contrast ^^

I love all three of them, and how different they are. I love the last one especially. I think that what is missing in the second one is relating to the dark-on-top, light-on-bottom background. The light part looks like there should be something there, where as the dark part serves to draw attention away from her face. Also, the candle is in the top half of the drawing, so it only makes sense that the light be up there.

I think that a simple matter of putting the background upside-down would be perfect for the picture.

I know I am way late to the party, so to speak, but I stumbled across your blog and was arrested by the girl in the middle. She is incredibly striking, so much so that I felt I just needed to put in my two cents. Beautiful work.
